It’s time for an accountability check in…This was a long weekend so drop in the comments one way you showed up for yourself over the last few days. It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant. It can be as simple as I took a nap! 😴I’ll start us off. I had intentional sister time today doing something we both love! 🏌🏽‍♀️⛳️ ... See MoreSee Less

My Focus for 2023 with teachers is COMMUNITY and EMPOWERMENT. It's no secret that a strong community is one key ingredient of children thriving in classrooms and I also believe it's a key ingredient to teachers thriving and navigating the teacher life. I want to be intentional about being in community with you and help you be in community with each other. I also deeply believe that empowerment is the key to becoming your best self professionally and personally. I want to be a source of empowerment for you to help you realize just how powerful and capable you are! However I feel led to show up for you in these areas, I plan to act on it throughout the year. After all, many of you convinced me that I had the potential to do things I am doing now. I want to return the favor!I will also have a few pieces of content I will be working on. I'm still getting requests for my Pacing Guide and Baseline Binder so I will still focus on sharing those resources along with accompanying trainings. I'm also in brainstorm mode about creating a session to help teachers identify and tap into their transferable teacher skills. I really feel like teachers are some of the most talented professionals but we sleep on our potential. I want to be the alarm clock to wake you up to all the unrealized potential you have. This means I will not be updating my blog this year with my signature games or posts but I do plan to get my existing resources into as many teachers hands as possible and add a new offering that focuses on you - the teacher! I still plan to do giveaways and engage with you through this Facebook community often. 😉 Sorry for the lengthy post. I had a lot on my mind and wanted to bring you along with what's in store. I hope you have an amazing (hopefully long) weekend filled with whatever you need it to be...Talk soon! ... See MoreSee Less

Guess who's back...?! I stepped away for a while so I wanted to let my EE family know what I've been up to and share some of my thoughts for the coming year.I’m back from my year long sabbatical which culminated in Jamaica for my honeymoon in December! (That's me living my best life horseback riding while I was there. 😁🐴) I intentionally chose to pause my side businesses because things became very hectic with many personal life changes and working multiple jobs was no longer sustainable. Time away was needed, so I could take a step back in order to move forward in new directions. I needed to prioritize myself for a change. I needed to learn that there's more to life than being in grind mode and being a functioning work-a-holic. I needed to explore hobbies and learn to rest.I know many of you followers here but there are also quite a few new followers, so let me introduce myself. I’m Shakara Jennings the creator of this The Excellent Educator teacher brand and SEED Consulting! I’m a former kindergarten teacher who thought for sure she’d retire as a 30 year kinder teacher but life has a funny way of throwing you curve balls and plot twists. After accelerated success in the classroom, I started working for my alma mater Georgia State, where I started out as a Georgia Pre-K (WSO) trainer. I advanced to designing and delivering my own content for trainings for Georgia Pre-K at GSU and working with both new and veteran teachers. I had the opportunity to become a national presenter working for several ECE conferences with K-5 teachers and built my own training and consulting company SEED Consulting. SEED was created to Support, Empower, Educate, and Develop others. (Fun Fact: I actually started this company long before I started consulting when I kept getting requests to tutor children.) I eventually got many requests to work with Birth-5 teachers in childcare and preschool settings. Eventually I closed the chapter at GSU and pursued my passion independently. I also ventured into the instructional design world beyond just working with educators. I now lead the instructional design team at Teach For America for Development staff and love it!Aside from my professional life I’m a wife, a bonus mom, a sister, a crafter, a creator, a fashionista and a bargainista! I can’t wait to engage with you this year and share the new things I’ll be doing for you excellent educators. I’ll share more about what’s in store in the coming weeks but the most important detail is that I'm looking to connect with 10-15 teachers through virtual coffee chats. These chat will be to build community with teachers, hear about your wins and challenges, and what supports you'd love to see from me. For now, welcome to (or back to) the excellent educator family. I'm so glad you're here! 💚 ... See MoreSee Less
